THE VAULT OPENS IN AKRON
The Vault in Akron (notice, no "s"; there is no connection with The Vaults of Cleveland) has finally opened their door for business. Located next to the Anthony Wayne Hotel at 316 S. Main, the bar takes its name from the main focal point, a 10 foot high vault leftover from the days when a bank occupied the premises.
At present the main bar and dance area are open. For dancing a new disco system has just been installed to play the latest disco tapes from New York. There is also a pool table for those who are so inclined.
Several additional facilities are planned for the near future. On the second floor will be the "Presidential Room". Panelled in cherry with brass light fix-

tures, this bar will serve as a place to get away from the hecticness of the disco. Adjacent to the Presidential Room will be the game room. Also, there will be a place to sit on the balcony overlooking the main bar and disco. This is all slated for completion in about two months.
A little sooner they are planning to project old time movies from the balcony to the front wall.
Parking will be no problem
because there are about 200
parking spaces available behind.
the bar. A television monitoring
system is to be repaired to guard the area and there will be a back entrance from the parking lot.
There are two more projects for the more distant future. One

is to build a spiral staircase to the third floor of the hotel. This floor will then be blocked off from the hotel lobby with access to the rooms only from the bar. In the basement is a small theater area which can be renovated.
The Vault is open from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. daily and from 1 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.
EQUINOX OPENS IN CLEVELAND
Cleveland's
northeast
quadrant finally has a gay bar for those east siders who do not want to venture all the way downtown or for those westsiders who are looking for something new. The Equinox, nestled behind the Pink Motel at 17555 Lakeshore Blvd. offers the usual plus a few extras. Wednesday through Saturday there is disco dancing with Joe Brosta, an eleven year veteran of the turntables. The records are about 90% disco with an occasional slow dance thrown in, just to give you an excuse to get close and intimate. Joe also has connections who supply him with the latest disco hits from France, Spain and Italy.
For those who can not boogie non-stop for five and one-half hours, there are other options such as pinball, pool or just a quiet table to sit and talk with old or newly made friends. T

If you are hungry and need your energy cells recharged, there is the prime rib special for $2.95. This includes an open face prime rib sandwich and salad. If this proves popular the menu will be expanded. For the drinkers there are extended cocktail hours (8-12) on Wednesday and Thursday nights with drink specials for 85c. Sunday from noon to three the Equinox is featuring their Sunday Brunch with juice, eggs benedict, bagels, cream cheese, smoked whitefish, and other favorites. As we get further into summer at least one luau is planned.
The most unique feature of Equinox is not inside, but outside the bar. As the days become warmer (and they will) Clevelanders will be flocking to their swimming pool. Cost for Continued on Page 17. T

still going on. Finally the cops go out to the parking lot which is around the corner from the bar and one of the women hits one of the cops and they take her in. For 4 1/2 weeks after that everyone trying to cross the street to enter the bar got jay15 walking tickets. I overreacted and said that every night was gentlemen's night and there was a $5 cover for women. It was a mistake and there were quite a few repercussions. Women we knew would walk right in without a cover. However, some eloquent spokeswomen pointed out I was overreacting and I learned it was not a good idea. The staff at Darwin's is entirely gay supporting 13, 1/2 including 2 full time managers, 3 full time bartenders, and the rest part time. They average a six day work week. At this time there are no women working there though there have been a couple in the past. Our bar is quite open. The only ones I don't encourage are drags. Drag is sexist satire and I disagree with it.
Darwin's is located at 214 W. 4th, open 5 to 2:30 Mon.-Fri., Sat. 6-2:30, Sun. 2 to 2:30. 5 to 8 is the cocktail hour. Ty's in Columbus is at 242 South High Street rear entrance from Beart
